If you would like to visit the United Methodist Church of Sitka here
are a few things that might be helpful before you come for the first
time. We understand how stressful it is to visit a new church....after
all, we were visitors ourselves at one time or another.
Are children welcome in worship and is there childcare available?
We
believe children are gifts from God. Squirming children and crying
babies are signs of God's creative love and having them in worship is a
reminder of God's love and grace. We welcome children of all ages in
all of our worship services. During our service we offer Sunday School
for children ages 3 thru 4th grade. The children will be accompanied
to the church fellowship hall where they will participate in age
specific opportunities to learn about and experience the love of God.
For those parents with children 3 and under desiring childcare, we have
an excellent nursery staffed with quality childcare workers during our
worship service.
Where do I park and is there handicap accessibility?
There
is visitor parking available in the front of the church. Please feel
free to park in those spots when you visit our church. If you have a
special need there is handicap parking available near the front door of
the church where you can enter the church and sanctuary on one level. .
How should I dress for church?
There
is no dress code for worship. We want you to come as you are. We have
people join us each week wearing slacks, jeans, shorts, button-up or
pullover shirt, dress shoes, tennis shoes and "Sitka slippers." We
care about you, not what you are wearing.
Can you tell me more about the worship styles?
Our
10:00
am worship service is described as traditional with digital
projection, and the worship environment is informal or family
friendly. We typically sing traditional gospel hymns sometimes mixed
with popular contemporary praise and worship songs. The service
typically lasts about one hour. The sermon is also presented on
powerpoint. The time and
informality have made this service popular with people of all ages,
especially families with children.
